Diana Peralta

Mexican mezzo-soprano Diana Peralta is an accomplished opera and concert artist whose career spans Mexico, the United States, Colombia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Panamá, Spain, Turkey, and Israel. Originally from Mexico City, she holds a degree in Opera and Concert Singing from the National Conservatory of Music of Mexico and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Arizona, where she is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Vocal Performance.

Peralta made her operatic role debut as Carmen in 2018 at the San Luis Potosí Opera Festival in Mexico, under the baton of Dr. Linus Lerner. She subsequently reprised the role with Opera de México in Durango in 2019, in Bodrum, Turkey, in 2022, and at the Jerusalem Opera Festival in 2023. Her repertoire encompasses a wide range of mezzo-soprano roles, including Donna Elvira, Cherubino, Zita, Zia Principessa, Ma Moss, Mercedes, Mme. de la Haltière, Ježibaba, Hänsel, Charlotte, Lady Rhondda, the Sorceress, Orfeo, Tisbe and the Second and Third Ladies in The Magic Flute, among others.

Her international engagements have included performances with ProLírica de Antioquia/SASO Opera in Medellín, Colombia, where she made her international debut as Zita in Gianni Schicchi and Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica. She has also collaborated with the Tucson Symphonic Orchestra in performances celebrating Mexican Independence Day and has appeared as an alto soloist with orchestras and ensembles in the United States and abroad.

As a concert artist, Peralta has performed major works including Verdi’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle. Her concert engagements have taken her to venues and festivals in New York City, Tucson, Sierra Vista, San Miguel de Allende, Rio Grande do Norte and Natal, Brazil, among others.

Peralta is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. At the University of Arizona, she received first place in the Amelia Rieman Opera Competition, the Marguerite Ough Competition, and the Opera Guild “Quest for the Best” Competition, as well as winning the President’s Competition. Internationally, she won First Place in the Vienna Summer Festival Vocal Competition in New York, resulting in her casting as Carmen for the Vienna Summer Festival in Austria. She was also named the winner of the Gertrude Brownlee Bitner Memorial Award from Opera de San Miguel de Allende and received the Opera of Panama Award at the Linus Lerner Competition in San Luis Potosí. She won Second Place in the Medici International Competition in 2026.

In addition to her performance career, Peralta is committed to bringing opera to new audiences. For four years, she has been a featured artist with Arizona Opera’s Operatunity Project, combining her professional performance career with her doctoral studies and community engagement.

Her recent repertoire includes Tisbe in La Cenerentola in Colombia, alto soloist performances of Verdi’s Requiem, Messiah in Brasil, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, as well as performances with organizations and festivals including ProLírica de Antioquia, FeMusik Festival Brasil, Tucson Symphonic Orchestra, Sierra Vista Orchestra, and Arizona Opera.

A versatile performer with a strong theatrical presence, Peralta complements her vocal training with advanced acting, dance, and basic castanet skills. She performs in English, Italian, French, German, Czech and Nahuatl, in addition to her native Spanish.
